At MHAWC, our mission is to provide compassionate and comprehensive wound care to all our patients. We believe that everyone deserves access to advanced techniques and products available in the wound care industry, and we strive to make that a reality for our community. We work very closely with other specialists such as vascular surgery and podiatrists and assist in wound healing by performing surgical procedures i.e. skin grafts, flap closure etc.
Our team is comprised of NYC-based board-certified plastic surgeon,
Dr. M. Zakir Sabry, Ms. Lorraine Hutchinson, RN, MSN, FNP-BC Nurse Practioner and Prabath Bhattarai, DSc.PA, MPH, PA-C Physician's Associate. The team has more than 20 years of experience of treating complex wounds in both hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient settings.
We most often treat wounds that are pressure induced such as sacral or ischial pressure sores but are well versed in treating wounds that are related to diabetes, vascular disease or other etiologies.
At MHAWC, because of our more than 20-year experience in dealing with wounds, we are quite adept at treating wounds of various etiologies. From conservative management using chemical debridement to application of various wound healing products to surgical debridement and reconstruction are all part of our armamentarium.
Some of the techniques we use to heal wounds include offloading pressure points, controlling infections, edema control, removal of unhealthy tissue, optimizing vascularity, innovative dressing materials, innovative topical applications including cellular biological topicals to surgical debridement, NPWT, skin graft, flap etc.
Pressure sores, also known as bedsores or pressure ulcers, are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin. They commonly occur in individuals who are immobile or bedridden for extended periods. The pressure restricts blood flow, leading to tissue damage. Wound healing in pressure sores involves relieving pressure, keeping the area clean, and promoting blood circulation to support tissue repair.
Post-surgical wounds can sometimes face complications like infections or delayed healing. Our dedicated team is experienced in managing post-surgical wounds, offering meticulous care, infection control measures, and interventions to promote optimal recovery.
Traumatic wounds result from physical injuries, such as cuts, abrasions, or punctures. Proper wound care is crucial to prevent infection and promote efficient healing. We have expertise in treating traumatic wounds, including cleaning, suturing if necessary, and monitoring for potential complications.
Diabetic wounds are often chronic wounds that result from complications associated with diabetes, such as neuropathy (nerve damage) and impaired circulation. These wounds can be slow to heal and prone to infections. We provide specialized diabetic wound care, emphasizing infection control, pressure offloading, and strategies to improve blood flow for effective healing.
Vascular diseases, including peripheral artery disease, can compromise blood flow to extremities, leading to chronic wounds. In the context of wound healing, addressing vascular issues is essential for restoring adequate blood supply to the affected areas. We can help improve circulation and support the healing process for individuals with vascular-related wounds.
